Women of all ages have one major thing in common. We all have skin. Yep, skin. And no matter whether we like it or not, our skin ages. And while many older women fight the signs of aging like its World War III, few younger women seem even to notice or care. But our skin is an organ just like any other, and it requires care and attention. Today, I'm encouraging you to invest in your best asset! Check out my story and my list of the best skincare products for 30 year olds.

It Started with a pimple like any other
Over the past few years, I've been spending a lot of time (and money) on my skin. To be honest, I haven't always been concerned about my skin. When I was younger, I had problem skin, and part of me believed it would always be that way. Once my thyroid condition was finally diagnosed in 2007, I saw a significant improvement in my skin. My skin was brighter and clearer. I attributed it to the thyroid medication, but the truth was that I'd finally started hydrating my skin.
At age 26 and gone to see the dermatologist, exclaiming that I was frustrated with my teenage skin. I was an adult, but my skin hadn't gotten the memo. The dermatologist prescribed a simple regimen of over the counter products and taught me about hydration. Just like we need water, our skin needs moisture. For a long time, I'd believed that putting moisturizer on my skin would make the acne worse. Little did I know!
Once my thyroid was medicated and my skin hydrated I saw a HUGE difference in my skin. I added quality makeup products to the mix and BAM! My skin had never looked better. And ten years later, I'm still pleased. But I've noticed some changes in my skin over these past few years that required another change. I'm aging and so is my skin.
We All Need a Boost From Time to Time
Like me, my thirty-seven-year-old skin is tired. Sometimes, it needs an extra boost just like I need that extra cup of coffee! I've found little signs of wrinkles and discoloration. And I've noticed changes in elasticity, especially after I've gained or lost weight (which anyone with thyroid problems experiences). While I'm not scared of aging, I am less than enthusiastic about having signs of aging on my face.
As I said before, these changes required action. So, once again, I adjusted my skin care regimen, and voila! Now my skin is even better than before, something I never thought I'd say as I inched ever closer to forty. My regimen now includes more moisture than ever before, and I 100% believe it's the key to good skin. I'm not a dermatologist or even a skincare specialist. I only know what I've experienced over the past several years.
Skincare Products I Use & Trust
These are the products I'm using right now to save my skin (again)! They require a little investment, but, friend, your face is worth the money. And you don't have to be 37 to start protecting your skin against the signs of aging. In fact, I wish I'd started a regimen like this years ago! And, no, I'm not advertising these products because I've been paid to. These are the products that line my shelves right now!
Good skin care starts with a gentle daily cleanser. My current favorite is the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser. It's gentle but effective, meaning you can use it both day and night to remove dirt, oil, and makeup. Plus, this cleanser is perfect for all skin types. So you can share with your guy, too!
Start the day off right with a strong cup of coffee and a strong skincare regimen including a powerhouse product like Philosophy's Hope in a Jar. This super skin cream is great for a variety of skin types. It helps fight the signs of aging and hydrates your skin for all-day relief. The light-weight formula is great for AM use before applying your makeup. And the alpha hydroxy acid it contains keeps skin looking renewed and bright.
For years I've relied on makeup with SPF to help protect my skin from daily exposure to harmful UV rays. Put your best skin forward with a powerhouse foundation, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer. You can trust any of the Bare Minerals liquid foundations to protect and moisturize your skin while giving you just the right amount of coverage. BareSkin, BarePro, and Complexion Rescue are all my top choices.
But my current go-to blend is Milk Makeup's Sunshine Skin Tint. I love the easy roller-ball applicator and the silky smooth coverage. This lighter-than-air formula is great for ladies who want to show off their gorgeous skin without weighing it down with heavy foundation and products. Plus, it contains 30 SPF, so you can bare with confidence!
Coverage That Counts
Why stop at foundation when you can get a powder that offers SPF coverage, too? Bare Minerals' Mineral Veil has long been my go-to loose powder for that very reason. This lightweight powder goes on smooth and light, allowing your skin to breath. There's a reason this best-seller makes the list of the best skincare products for 30 year olds time and time again. And the translucent formula is great for most skin tones!
for times When You Need More Coverage
Spending a day without makeup is great for your skin! I try to do that at least once per week to give my skin a break. But sans makeup does not mean sans SPF. No matter what you're doing, suncare should always be part of your skincare routine. And why trust your delicate face to any old harsh SPF lotion? Use a formula specifically designed for facial application to avoid clogged pores or irritation. Trust Kiehls Ultra Facial Moisturizer Sunscreen or Bare Minerals Prep Lotion to protect your best asset even when you're going bare skinned!
Nourish at Night
Evenings are the perfect time to feed your face! Start with a serum (see below) and then lather on powerful creams like Philosophy's Hope in a Jar Night or Kiehl's Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque. Either of these killer creams will leave your face feeling soft, supple, and totally hydrated the morning after. I use Hope in a Jar Night 5 nights per week and the Overnight Hydrating Masque 2 nights per week just to mix things up. My face has never felt or looked better!
Pro Tip: The Kiehl's Overnight Hydrating Masque is SUPER hydrating. It's perfect for winter or dry climates like California. But I wouldn't use it in summer, especially in a moist environment like Louisiana or Florida.
Saturate with Serum
If the secret to good skin is hydration, then serums might be the holy grail. But you're in search of the best skincare products for 30 year olds and not the ultimate anti-aging potion. So, we'll start slowly with the serums. If you're hydrating properly with the products above, then you may not need a serum. But if your face still isn't hydrated and supple, consider adding a serum to your routine.
Serums help your skin better absorb the moisture of your daily products. Plus, many contain anti-aging properties and skin-brightening benefits. No need to break the bank on a serum just yet. After all, we're only in our 30s. I trust Oz Naturals' Vitamin C Serum to give my skin an extra boost from time to time. Apply after cleansing but before moisturizing to get the best results.
Masks, Peels, and Scrubs
Exfoliation is one of the best ways to keep your skin looking and feeling younger. If done regularly, exfoliation can help slough away dead skin cells, improving texture and tone. But not all products are intended to be used daily. For day-to-day exfoliation, trust Philosophy's Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash right before you cleanse. This stuff is like liquid gold, so thank goodness a little goes a long way.
When you need a little more scrubbing power, try Philosophy's Microdelivery Resurfacing Peel. This system is literally amazing and worth every single penny. I get the same results at home as I've gotten from professional facials. If you're just starting on your skincare journey, use this system to uncover beautiful, youthful skin worth showing off! After that, you can use it twice a month like I do.
Masks can be a great way to lift and remove trapped dirt and oil from pores. When your pores are peering out at you, slather on a little of Philosophy's Purity Made Simple Mask and sit back. This deep-cleaning formula visibly reduces the look of my pores after one use! I try to use it at least once or twice a week to keep my pores in check.
Eyes Wide Open
The delicate skin around our eyes is an area that we'll likely be paying more and more attention in the future. For now, we don't have to worry so much about fine lines and wrinkles. But our hectic lifestyles and late nights often leave us with tired eyes and dark circles...or maybe it's just me?
When your eyes are most tired, give them a breath of fresh air with the oxygenating formula contained in Philosophy's Breath of Fresh Air Eye Cream. I use this cream at night before bed when my eyes are feeling extra tired. The sudden burst of cool moisture soothes my eyes, and I rest easy knowing my skin will look great the next day.
And when nothing else seems to help hide the dark circles, trust Bare Minerals' Well-Rested to save the day. This rich powder concealer hides even the darkest of circles. Apply after your foundation for the best coverage!
Wet Your Whistle
We've established that your skin needs moisture to give it a healthy glow. But all the moisturizing products in the world can beat plain old H20. That's right. Water. It's the secret to good skin. And the best part is that it's readily available! So grab yourself a new water bottle and fill up on the best of the best skincare products for 30 year olds!
