Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you the best of the #IGTravelChallenge! If you’ve been following a Cajun in Cali on Instagram for a while, then you’ve probably already heard of the hashtag I’m about to mention. If not, let me tell you about some of the most fun I’ve had in a while!
In March 2016 I was honored to co-host the first ever #IGTravelChallenge, an Instagram-based travel photography challenge. Toward the end of the challenge my travel blog friends, Tricia @ The Adventure List and Hannah @ Traveller Hannah, and I agreed that a best of the #IGTravelChallenge post was necessary to showcase some of the amazing photos submitted during the challenge.
I’ll admit that I wasn’t sure what kind of response we’d get from the travel community on Instagram when I was first approached by Tricia to help co-host the challenge. But word about the challenge spread quickly! I realized early in the month when hundreds of submissions came rolling in each day that I may have misjudged the power of the Instagram community. In the end, I was blown away by the reception of the community and the amazing connections forged over the course of the 31-day photo challenge.

It’s Still Winter Here
Day 19 of the #igtravelchallenge = “best sunset”. For the past five or six years, I’ve spent the first week of my summer break with a bunch of friends (and fellow teachers) down on the Sassafras River in Maryland. When we’re down there, it feels like time slows down. We spend our days hanging out on the beach, swimming, taking the boat out and tubing or water skiing, and riding the golf carts everywhere. We take turns cooking meals for each other and drink more than we should, celebrating the end of another school year and our friendship with each other. And every night after dinner, we head down to the pier to watch the sunset. Some of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen have been viewed from that pier with some of the best people a girl could ever have in her life.

The mountains in Svalbard are just out of this world. The whole landscape on these islands, far up in the Arctic is so stunningly beautiful! I was so lucky to stay there two weeks, hardly spending any money – just CouchSurfing, doing a little work for food and hiking around the island. Read the full story on my blog! Give Me a Beach
#igtravelchallenge Day 11: Give me a beach. Since I moved to Israel, I almost stopped going to beach resorts – why waste previous vacation time if the sea is always just a 30-minute drive from home? This is an old, but precious memory from an island of Koločep in Croatia. #sea #croatia #kolocep #kolocepisland #croatiafulloflife #lovecroatia #bluewater #summer #summerbreak #europetravel

Enjoying Public Transportation
day 4 #bluestwater #igtravelchallenge This was a much easier choice than the first few days! The bluest water I have ever seen was all near Nusa Lembongan, just off the coast of #Bali. It was a toss up between #MushroomBeach and #DreamBeach but #dreambeach wins by the smallest margin. I don’t know that I would go back, but I really loves this tiny island. I liked it much more than Bali itself, to be totally honest. Have you ever traveled to a place that surprised you?

Favorite Travel Memory
#IGtravelchallenge March 10: Favourite Travel Memory: So so so so many to choose from. Cruising in Alaska, seeing NYC from the Top of the Rock, any time I’m in London.. they were all front runners but I had to go with one that really sticks in my mind. Seeing the Eiffel Tower ???? in person. I didn’t love Paris but the Eiffel Tower was as amazing as I had hoped. First time I saw her she was half shrouded in fog so we only saw the bottom half. The next day we saw her in all her glory & then went back at night fo her amazing light show.. that was work standing in the freezing cold for an hour & being accosted by counted souvenir touters.. still a such strong memory for me

Favorite Local Market
Day 24 of the #igtravelchallenge: Would you believe me if I told you that one of the best sushi rolls we’ve had was from a food truck in Hobart’s Farm Gate Market? We queued an hour and would gladly do it all over again ???? #localmarket #gastrorgasm #etsyexplorestassie
